Taking Care of the Caregiver
Natural wellness resources and essential oil blends curated by Kelly Price Noble, DHA, MAOM, CRCFEA, CSA® — for the people who give the most and often ask for the least.
You Cannot Pour From an Empty Cup
Caregiving asks everything of a person. The early mornings, the difficult conversations, the paperwork and the phone calls and the appointments — and underneath all of it, the emotional weight of watching someone you love move through decline. The person receiving care is not the only one who needs support. The caregiver does too.
Wellness, in Kelly's view, is not a luxury reserved for people with extra time. It is a daily practice of returning to yourself — even briefly, even imperfectly — so you have something left to give. The tools on this page are part of that practice.
Kelly Price Noble, DHA, MAOM, CRCFEA, CSA® has used doTERRA essential oils as a personal wellness tool throughout her caregiving journey and recommends them to the caregivers and families she works with. What follows are six blends she has developed and refined — three for the diffuser and three for topical use — each one designed to meet a specific moment in the caregiving day.
About doTERRA

A Note on Use
Essential oils are a complementary wellness tool, not a substitute for medical care. If you or someone in your care is managing a serious health condition, consult a qualified healthcare provider before introducing new wellness practices. Always dilute topical blends properly and perform a patch test before applying to skin. Keep oils out of reach of children and pets.
Diffuser Blends
The following three blends are designed for use in an essential oil diffuser. Add the recommended drops to water in your diffuser and allow the aroma to fill the space. These work well during quiet moments, while preparing for a difficult conversation, or at the end of a long day.
Rainstorm — Clarity and Calmness
For moments when the mind feels cluttered and the day feels heavy.
4 drops Eucalyptus
3 drops Lemon
3 drops Lemongrass
Eucalyptus clears the mental fog that accumulates during long caregiving days. Lemon brings brightness and a sense of forward movement. Lemongrass grounds the blend with an earthy steadiness that keeps it from feeling too sharp.
Wildflowers
For moments when you need to feel something other than exhausted.
3 drops Cedarwood
2 drops Bergamot
2 drops Lavender
2 drops Patchouli
2 drops Wild Orange
This is a layered, complex blend that unfolds over time in the room. Cedarwood and Patchouli anchor it. Bergamot and Wild Orange lift it. Lavender runs through the center and keeps the whole thing from becoming too heavy. A blend for the end of the day when you need to remember there is more to you than the role you have been filling.
Blue Skies and Butterflies
For mornings when you need a gentle, optimistic start.
2 drops Grapefruit
2 drops Lemon
2 drops Peppermint
Simple and bright. This blend is an energizing reset — the kind that feels like opening a window. Grapefruit and Lemon bring lightness. Peppermint sharpens the mind and signals the body that the day is beginning. Use this one in the morning before the demands of the day arrive.
Topical Blends
The following three blends are designed for topical use — applied directly to the skin when diluted in a carrier oil. The carrier oils listed with each recipe are suggestions; coconut, jojoba, sweet almond, and grapeseed oils all work well and are widely available. Always dilute properly and perform a patch test on a small area of skin before full application.
Essential Oil Blend for Caregivers
For moments of emotional heaviness that need a steady, grounding response.
10 drops Lavender
5 drops Frankincense
5 drops Bergamot
5 drops Ylang Ylang
2 tablespoons carrier oil — coconut or jojoba
Apply to the wrists, the back of the neck, or the chest. This blend was developed for the emotional dimension of caregiving — the grief, the love, the exhaustion that does not quite have a name. Lavender calms. Frankincense centers. Bergamot lifts. Ylang Ylang reminds the nervous system that safety is possible.
Calming Essential Oil Blend for Caregivers
For high-stress moments and difficult days when the nervous system needs to settle.
8 drops Chamomile
6 drops Clary Sage
6 drops Geranium
4 drops Cedarwood
2 tablespoons carrier oil — sweet almond or grapeseed
Apply to the inner wrists, temples, or behind the ears. Chamomile and Clary Sage work together to ease anxiety and soften the edges of a day that has asked too much. Geranium supports emotional balance. Cedarwood grounds the blend and adds a quiet strength. Use this one when the body is carrying tension that the mind has not yet been able to release.
Uplifting Essential Oil Blend for Caregivers
For the days when getting through it requires a little more than you currently have.
10 drops Orange
8 drops Peppermint
6 drops Eucalyptus
4 drops Rosemary
2 tablespoons carrier oil — almond or grapeseed
Apply to the wrists or the base of the neck before a demanding stretch of the day. Orange lifts mood and brings warmth. Peppermint and Eucalyptus sharpen focus and open the airways. Rosemary supports mental clarity and alertness. Together they are the olfactory equivalent of a deep breath and a decision to keep going.

Frequently Asked Questions

Essential oils can be used safely around elderly individuals when applied or diffused thoughtfully and in appropriate concentrations. Those with respiratory conditions, sensitivities, or complex medication regimens should consult a healthcare provider before introducing aromatherapy into the care environment. When in doubt, start with a low concentration and observe the response.
-
Kelly recommends starting with the core oils used across these six blends — Lavender, Frankincense, Bergamot, Peppermint, and Wild Orange are the most versatile and appear in multiple recipes. doTERRA's enrollment kits offer a cost-effective way to build a starter collection. -
A carrier oil is a neutral plant-based oil used to dilute essential oils before applying them to skin. Essential oils are highly concentrated and applying them undiluted can cause irritation. Common carrier oils include coconut, jojoba, sweet almond, and grapeseed oil — all widely available and gentle on most skin types.

Aromatherapy and essential oil blends are supportive wellness tools that can help regulate the nervous system, ease anxiety, and restore a sense of calm during stressful periods. They are a complement to — not a replacement for — professional support. If you are experiencing significant burnout, Kelly's emotional support consulting is a more direct path to sustained relief.
